Personal Statement

Personal Statement:

I started teaching at Bath Spa University in September 2005. Prior to this I have worked in education at City of Bath College.

I have a broad subject knowledge and extensive experience in the music production industry, audio post production for moving image and interactive audio environments. My knowledge and practice have been informed by my past experience as a musician, studio engineer, producer, music event organiser and practice in multimedia/graphics. I have worked since 1981 as a musician, playing in a range of different bands and projects. I ran "Natural Recording Studios" (Groningen - The Netherlands) from 1991 until 1996. Here I developed an interest in sound manipulation techniques using audio effects processors and experimental recording techniques.

I have worked on numerous CD releases in a variety of different roles (producer, sound engineer, musician, programmer and CD mastering engineer). My recent activities include working as a sound designer for broadcast media and film as well as designing interactive sound installations.

My recent academic research includes sonic signatures in music production and film sound design.
