Performance For The Recorded Media

PA Recorded Media is an optional third year module pathway for Performing Arts students and is a programme that explores the techniques of production and performance in the contemporary recorded media including film, television and audio drama.

PA Recorded Media is an industry focused module pathway and wherever possible students are given opportunities to interact with currently practising industry professionals. In 2008/9 masterclasses were delivered to Recorded Media students by screenwriters Steve Coombes & Chris Murray, Director/Producer Baz Taylor, TV Presenter Sarah Greene, Actors David Schaal, Richard Derrington & Samantha Bond, Costume Designer Jo Derrick, Make-Up Designer Sue Kneebone, DOP John Wood and agent Peter Macfarlane.

Electric Dreams

Twice a year, our Performing Arts students show their recorded media to an audience of staff, students, and invited guests in the Electric Dreams 'film-festival' events.

Electric Dreams I is held in the University Theatre in the spring and shows the Alpha Films written, directed and poroduced by students in Term 1.

Electric Dreams II is a red-carpet, black tie, glitz & glamour evening in June to premiere the Thesis Films at the Little Cinema in Bath and includes an awards ceremony where awards are presented to students in the categories of: Best Actor in A Leading Role, Best Actress In A Leading Role, Best Actor In A Supporting Role, Best Actresss In A Supprting Role, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film.

Liquid Soap

PA Recorded Media students also take an active part in Bath Spa Universities in-house comedy soap opera Liquid Soap. This professional standard webcast production is written, produced, directed & performed by BSU students but managed by TV industry professionals.

Practical Film & TV Sessions 2009/10

PA Recorded Media covers all aspects of Film & TV production including Make Up, Costume, Lighting, Sound, Camera and editing. Classes are often taught by professionals still active in the industry. Here Sue Kneebone, Make Up Designer for Casualty and Being Human, introduces students to the basics of Make Up for film & TV.
